Genome analysis of Salmonella strains isolated from imported frozen fish in Burkina Faso

Abstract Purpose Fish is an excellent source of protein and vitamins for humans, but improperly handled, fish can expose consumers to pathogenic bacteria. This study was aimed isolate characterize the genomes Salmonella strains isolated from imported sold in open market Ouagadougou. Methods One hundred fifty-nine were collected markets cultured . Antimicrobial susceptibility determined by broth microdilution. Whole-genome sequencing done further antibiotic resistance genes, plasmid replicons, MSLT types. Serotyping using SeqSero 2. Result Out 159 samples analyzed, 30 (18.9%) found be contaminated with Among strains, six different serotypes, Nima, Liverpool, Kokomlemle, Teshie, Derby, Tennessee, SeqSero2. Tennessee predominant serotype. All isolates possessed at least one gene. The aac6-Iaa aminoglycoside gene most prevalent strains. fosA7 detected three S. Nima Multilocus Sequence Type (MLST) 8086, S Teshie ST 530; Liverpool 1959; Derby 7880; Kokomlemle 2696. gave two STs including 8395 8398. Conclusion presented results highlight prevalence on purchased markets. More attention should paid regarding selling conditions country prevent potential health risk consumers.
